Due to some construction work at home the wire got broken, I have an appointment nexg week Wednesday to get it fixed by KPN. I have two questions:

  1. Can I get it fixed myself from some specialist handymen that fix the cable?
  2. how much usually it costs by KPN. Outside handymen say KPN will charge 400 or 700 euro. I am not sure.

Repairing a broken fibercable can only be done with specific equipment and can not be done by a "handyman".

The costs mentioned are absolutely not that high.

Thanks for responding. Is it allowed to get it done by some specialist who has the splicer and has done it before. I am confused: I am going to wait for a long time without internet and paying high amount to KPN to fix it OR get it done soon paying and paying 200-300 euros? I don’t know how much KPN will cost.

I think it will be much cheaper if you let it be repaired by KPN.

Where is the fiber broken?

Ok, good to know. Thanks. The cable goes below floor. I wanted to install POE doorbell, the guy drillled a hole next to the existing hole of optic cable.

Is there a space (de kruipruimte) below that floor?

I yes, the should be some spare meters of fibercable laying there on the ground meaning the cable can carefully be pulled upward and only needs to be reconnected to the FTU. In that case it will be very easy to repair.

Don' t mess with it yourselves but leave it to the specialists.

Yes, there is space below the floor. I am not sure if cable has extra length. It doesn’t look like, the cable goes straight. I hope its easy and cheap.
Yes, I am not touching it. Thanks a lot for responding. It really helped.

Hi @Pandeyalok

KPN Netwerk is responsible for repairing damaged fiber optic cables. If the damage was caused by the customer, there will be costs for the repair. However, if the customer couldn’t reasonably have known where the cable was located, the situation might be different.

To answer your questions:

  1. Fiber optic cable repairs generally need to be done by KPN Netwerk, as they are responsible for maintaining the network infrastructure. An external handyman might not be authorized or equipped to handle these repairs correctly.

  2. Repair costs from KPN can vary depending on the specific situation. If the damage is confirmed to be caused by the customer, fees around €400 to €700 are common estimates, but it’s best to confirm the exact amount directly with KPN Netwerk when scheduling your repair.

Will you share with us the final outcome?
