My contract is automatically renewed with a year without my knowledge

I apologize for writing in English . I am still learning Dutch and struggle with expressing complex issues in the language.
I am reaching out to understand why my internet contract was automatically extended for another year after its expiration date instead of being converted to a monthly plan.
Is this a standard practice?
To provide some context, I moved to a different house six months into my KPN internet contract. Unfortunately, my new home only has a copper connection with a maximum speed of 20 Mbps. Given the low speed, the fees I'm now facing seem quite high. I was anticipating the contract would end upon its expiration, but I was surprised to find out that I am now committed for another year. Is it possible for me to transfer my contract to a more suitable provider under these circumstances?
So far, this situation, combined with the poor speed and automatic renewal for an additional year, feels like an unsatisfactory experience. I received a phone call stating I had been informed, but my mailbox only contained bills and offers to connect to Spotify.

Hi ​@BioZerG, welcome to the community. When the periode of the contract expires (one or two years) it should continue to a monthly plan as you've said. I don't know what happend in your situation, I can't see it because I don't have your details.

This is what is written in my contract. Why did it become annual again?

Looptijd contract
Het contract wordt automatisch omgezet in een contract voor onbepaalde tijd nadat de minimumduur voorbij is. U kunt aan het einde van de minimumduur uw abonnement opzeggen. U moet daarbij rekening houden met de opzegtermijn van 1 maand. Doet u dit niet dan loopt het contract door. U kunt dan maandelijks opzeggen. Bij het beëindigen van uw abonnement worden ook uw extra diensten beëindigd.
