I've connected the cables as the guide required but nevertheless the internet led in the modem keeps blinking and no connection is provided

You can try connecting your cable to the orange and white cable, sometimes the first cable is broken and KPN use the second pair. If that doesn't work I would advise calling KPN at 0800-0402 and ask for an technician. They are available 24/7 for technical problems.
Worked "magically" without doing nothing. I'm guessing only patience was needed
