Do I have a static IP?

I just got a glass fiber connection with KPN, and I have a few servers running at home.

Do I have a static IP at this point, or at least one that doesn't change too often?
If not, is it possible to get it via KPN, or do I need DynDNS?

Formally you don't have a static IP address but in practice it will not change at all.
The last time my IP address changed is many years ago.

    Hi jzapp, welcome on our board. @wjb is right, we do have dynamic (not static) IP's, but those IP's almost never change. I'm willing to bet that you will not have any problems regarding your servers as long as you keep your router online. 🙂

    There is even no need to keep your router online. In practice your IP address will only change when the physical connection changes. Like for example when you switch from a copper connection to glass fiber.
    I bet the chance that your IP address changes in the next five year is less than 5 percent.

    als ik via www.myip.nl mijn publiek ip adres opvraag zie ik dat de hostname static.kpn.net is.
    Het woord static zegt al genoeg lijkt me.☺️

    Bij jou staat daar wellicht static.kpn.net maar dat is lang niet bij iedereen zo.


    But don't worry, even then it is very unlikely that your IP address will ever change.
