My FTU was painted over

I’m about to move into a new apartment and attempted to install my ONT, but the FTU (TK-01) was painted over during the renovation and seems unusable.
The bottom fiber port is painted partially shut and the paint is thick enough to keep the ONT from sliding on properly.
How do I get this replaced so that I can continue with the installation?
I’ve tried to get help but it is impossible to find contact info on the KPN site.

Could you send a photo of the FTU and the painted area? I’m curious to see how much paint is on it. It also may help us determine whether you can safely fix it yourself or not.

To arrange an appointment, you can use this link: https://www.kpn.com/service/monteur#monteur-bepalen/ik-wil-een-nieuwe-afspraak-maken or call KPN Customer Service on 0800 0402.

@hchc You can easily remove the layer of paint with a putty knife. The fibreglass connector is behind the blue cover inside the FTU and should not have been affected by the paint. As long as you can press the blue cover in with your finger, there’s no problem.

Hi @hchc, welcome to the community. Congratulations on your new place! TDN and Dave already gave you a few good tips. Like them, I'm also curious to see how it looks. Are you able to post a photo of it?

Dave also gave you a way to contact us by phone, it's also possible to make a callback appointment (terugbel afspraak, bottom right) via our site.

Sorry for the radio silence, we were moving into the new place.

I followed @TDN advice and scraped off LOTS of paint and got it to the point where the ONT would slide on, but not click in; it stopped right before it got to the tab.

To avoid going further and breaking either device, I managed to get an installation tech to come out. He took the FTU off of the wall and really had to press the ONT into place, but finally got it working. He did mention he was happy I hadn’t tried forcing it myself since he does actually spend some of his time fixing ONT/FTUs that people break through force.
The helpful person that set up my appointment did tell me of all the things she’s had to deal with, a painted FTU was a first.
Thanks for all the advice and thanks to the KPN employees that helped me resolve it.

When moving house you have a lot to do, so we understand the radio silence. That is no problem 🙂

I'm happy the engineer was able to fix it like that, and that it could have been a harder fix. It sounds like everything is working now. If there is anything else we can do for you, you know where to find us!
