Hi, I leave the Netherlands next week. I approached KPN to cancel my contract on the 5th with the deregistration letter from the gementee at their store. They said everything is okay. Suddenly they send me an email saying they need more documents. I give them what the opzeggen asked for, including a letter from my employer stating my deputation in the netherlands is over. After multiple conversations and speaking to a lady at KPN who confirmed that my documents were okay and the phone contract would be cancelled, I get an email from Opzeggen stating send everything again. I have done this exercise three times and no one at KPN knows what’s the status. My bank account wont be functional after a month or so. I feel I’m stuck in a continuous loop with KPN, and would take my blood and soul as well,

Hey @MiniKun. If you are moving abroad, you don’t want your KPN contract to keep following you. It’s understandable that you want to know what's going on.

It’s important that you send us the required documents for cancellation due to emigration. Here’s what is needed in this case:

Moving Abroad / Emigration:
You can terminate your contract via https://www.kpn.com/emigreren.
Evidence Required: Proof of deregistration from your previous municipality or an employment contract/statement from an educational institution abroad.
For Mobile subscriptions: Any outstanding device credit must be paid off first.
Processing time: 5 working days due to ending the BKR registration.
Subscription costs from the day of emigration will be credited.

A common mistake is that sometimes customers send the request for deregistration from the municipality instead of the actual proof. This is not the correct document. You will later receive the official proof of deregistration by email as a PDF, and only this counts as valid evidence. Alternatively, a copy of an employment contract with a company or organization based abroad is also sufficient.

If you are sure you have already sent the correct document, it’s best to call us again. The cancellations department will make a note on whether the evidence has been approved or not. You can make a callback appointment for this, on a date and time that suits you best. Click on the following link: schedule a callback request
