How can I move e-sim to a new phone, when the old one is broken?

Hello,

I have broken my phone whilst travelling and need to move my e sim to a new phone. I can’t log onto MijnKpn because it requires two factor authentication (which requires my Dutch phone number).

I also can’t access customer service via the phone without paying £2.50 per minute. Is there another way to have my e sim moved to my new phone?

(I also tried to log in online and it told me to delete my KPN account and make a new one if I could no longer access my number, but then to make a new account I still needed a Dutch number)

Thanks and kind regards,

Nathan

Hi @Nathan12345

Since 3rd of February this year KPN has added an option to activate e-sim without your old phone.
Have a look at this article in the “KPN Kennisbank”

https://community.kpn.com/kennisbank-mobiel-139/e-sim-bij-kpn-594670#E-sim+installeren+zonder+oud+toestel

You will be checked by exchanging a verificationcode via mail and you paying 0,01 Euro via iDeal from your bankaccount.

Go to the KPN website: E-sim installeren and follow the steps.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I tried this and it tells me that my bank does not use iDeal. I use n26 which last I checked did have access to IDeal. I am not sure what else to try.

Any other ideas?

Thanks again

There is only one option left: you need a physical sim-card (as mentioned in the article).

Unfortunately KPN only sends this card to your Dutch address.

Thanks for the help. Do you know if the customer help line would be able to help with this?

I am not too sure what to do, as I won't be back in the Netherlands for a while but I need my Dutch number still.

Thanks again.

Hi @Nathan12345

You can phone customer service on +31 6 1200 1200, but this can be expensive from outside NL.

You can also send KPN a message via social media ( Instagram, Facebook or X ).

One issue remains: a SIM card is only sent to your Dutch address. Somebody (family, friend) needs to send it to you abroad.

Hi @Nathan12345

According to their website, N26 has been supporting iDeal for about 2 years: https://n26.com/en-eu/blog/ideal-payments

Hi Heidi,

I thought so too but when I enter my email and phone number it just says "Your bank doesn't support iDEAL. Unfortunately, you can't complete this step-by-step plan."

Which I was surprised by.

Best,

Nathan

Hi @Nathan12345, welcome on our board.
First of all, I’m really sorry to hear that your phone broke. It’s good to see that RBxx has already helped you so well. Have you managed to have a new SIM card sent to your home address in the meantime? Hopefully, there’s someone who can forward the card to you abroad.
Let me know.

Hi Alex,

I haven't yet - would that require calling customer service or is there a different way to do this?

Also, importantly, would I be able to activate this SIM outside of the Netherlands?

Thanks for the help!

Nathan

You can also send KPN a message through social media ( InstagramFacebook or X ) if you don't want to call.
The activation abroad is not a problem.
