ID is not accepted when getting a contract for a ZZP business

I am trying to get a KPN contract number for my business.

The issue is, for whatever reason the website issues a mandatory ID requirement, and does not accept my ID since it is not on the list of allowed documents (I am a Ukrainian national residing in the Netherlands under the TPD, got my IND sticker and all).

I was able to get a BSN, was able to open a personal bank account, was able to register with the KVK as a business and to get a business bank account, but I can’t sign a contract for a phone number? I find this to be utterly ridiculous.

The KPN store staff or the customer support line were of no help either.

Is there any way at all I can get a contract?

Hello @Ruslan R, welcome! Thank you for choosing KPN! 💚

Although, I understand this seems to be somewhat problematic. As you seem to be unable to get a subscription with us. Let me see if I can help you.

Yes, it is true that we do not accept your Ukrainian ID. We only accept ID's from EU and EER countries. Ukraine is not on this list. However, this does not mean that you will not be able to get a KPN subscription.

You can get a subscription with a permit of residence. Unfortunately, we are unable to check these online or via phone. Therefore, I'd advise you to visit one of our stores. Click on the link to find one close to you. And don't forget to bring your permit of residence, as it will need to be scanned.

Addressing the support on FB was of no help either.

I had no choice but to file a complaint with the Autoriteit Consument & Markt about this practice - it may not be discriminatory by design, but it sure as hell ends up being one. And, like I said, the fact that I can register a company and open a business bank account while not being able to sign a contract for a phone number is just preposterous.

I’ve ‘solved’ the issue by signing with Lebara for a business contract - the new SIM with the ported number is already on the way. Can’t be bothered running around to get a phone contract directly with KPN, if it’s so complicated.

Yes, I am aware Lebara is still KPN, technically.

That is, of course, all right. You have to do what's best for you.

I do want to correct one thing, though. Lebara is NOT KPN. It uses the KPN network, yes. But that's all.
