Received old router (Experia Box V10) after moving

Hi,

At my previous address I had a new modern router KPN Box 12 with Wifi 6.

After moving to a new place, I received an old (both in terms of specifications, and literally with dirty and yellowed plastic) Experia V10.

Why? Is this a thank you for being a customer? What’s the logic here?

I need Wifi 6 for my use case. How do I arrange that?

Only interested in KPN staff support.

WTF is this, kpn? You struggle with money or something?

Absolute embarrassment. Disgusting

Hi @nikitap that's most unfortunate. It's true that KPN reissue it's devices if they meet certain standards. We do this to combat e-waste and other factors. That doesn't mean we don't check the devices before reissuing them. It's seems this simple slipped true unfortunately.

I would advise you to contact customer support to discuss this with them. You can plan a call back appointment on a moment which suits you.

@nikitap This is very strange, because when you move, you are allowed to take the old modem with you to the new address.

You may move this with you

See below what you should bring to your new home for each product:

………...

That's true, normally you can take the relevant equipement with you during a move.

Hi @Remco van KPN , and @TDN, thank you so much for your replies. This is what it says in the app:

Leave fiber optic box with adapter (which I did)

And it says to return “1x Modem” (doesn’t specify, but it is KPN Box 12 in my case):

Return your old modem before August 12

Do you think I should call KPN and ask if I can use the KPN Box 12 from my old apartment instead, and return the Experia Box? Is that possible?

it could be possible that the connection you recieved at your new home, is only possible with de V10 instead of the Box12.

we call this Pair Bonding. its a DSL connection that uses 4 wires instead of the usual 2 wires. this type of connection is only possible with the V10.

Hi @joey92, thank you for the reply. Honestly I’m not too sure about the wires, the monteur took care of all this today. I connected the KPN Box 12 just to test, and it works (in router settings it says connection type is VDSL). This is what it looks like now:

Dit werkt wel. Maar nu heb je maar de halve snelheid.

Alleen met de Experiabox v10 kan je de volledigheid van de verbinding benutten.

Doe een speedtest bij beide modems, dan kom je er vanzelf achter.

you are gonna need the V10 in this case. this is the type of connection i just talked about. you only get the full internet speed with the V10. with Box12 you only recieve half the internet speed.

Thank you @joey92 - you are right, the internet speed is exactly about half of what it was with V10. But video game streaming via GeForce NOW is much smoother (no latency spikes / audio lags) with Box 12 still, apparently the difference is huge between Wifi 5 and 6 for GeForce NOW.

I wonder if there is a router that supports Wifi 6 but also works well with this type of connection?

Or perhaps I should just buy an Ethernet adapter for MacBook and pull an Ethernet cable from the V10 to my laptop..

Dat laatste zou sowieso het beste zijn. Je kunt ook een los WiFi accespoint kopen dat WiFi 6 ondersteund. En WiFi op de Experiabox uit zetten.

Unfortunately I don't have an alternative with Wifi 6 to offer you in combination with this type of connection BVDSL. I'm sorry, it isn't the most cosmetic pleasing option but maybe an ethernet cable is the easiest solution.

Thank you @Remco van KPN, one last question - adding a SuperWifi point should work, right? (if I understand correctly, the wifi on Experia Box V10 will turn off automatically and I’ll basically use SuperWifi as the wifi router)

It depends on the software version on the V10. With the latest software the Wifi stays active and forms a mesh network with the Super Wifi.
