Upgrade TY01 to TK01 (free Modem Choice)

I will start a new 1Gbps fiber connection with KPN, but still have the older TY01 FTU installed. Under the Dutch free modem choice law (vrije modemkeuze), I would like to use my own Fritz!Box Fiber in the future, which requires a TK01 FTU.

Is it possible to arrange a free technician visit to replace the TY01 with a TK01?"

Hi @lucidlens .

Good question, and nice to see you’re already looking ahead to using your own equipment.

In your situation, the key thing is that the network and FTU type need to match the requirements for vrije modemkeuze. The TY01 you currently have doesn’t always align with what’s needed for a direct fiber modem like the Fritz!Box Fiber, so your thinking about the TK01 makes sense.

That said, arranging a technician directly for a swap isn’t something we can set up manually from here. The process is tied to a check on your specific connection.

The best way forward is to go through the servicetool on  « eigen modem check» . That tool checks whether your current setup is suitable for using your own modem. If it detects that your FTU (like the TY01) isn’t compatible, it will automatically trigger the necessary changes in the background. If needed, that can also include scheduling a technician to replace the FTU with the correct type, such as a TK01.

So in short, you don’t have to separately request a technician. If your connection requires it, the system will take care of that once you complete the check.

Let me know if the tool works?

Hello @Erwin van KPN

Thank you for your response.

I tried to check the service tool → http://kpn.com/eigenmodem

I get the error as shown in the picture:

Note: I still do not have the KPN internet subscription active at my home. I'm currently with another internet network provider.

You do not need TK01

@lucidlens

Thanks for the update. I need to point out that we can only assist with this process if there is an active KPN subscription at the address. Since your KPN internet isn’t active yet and you’re still with another provider, the service tool won’t work and we can’t schedule a technician or swap the FTU at this stage.

Once your KPN subscription is active, you can run the check via the service tool, and it will guide you through any necessary changes or technician visit if the FTU needs replacing.
