Create and use a KPN ID account with an authenticator app

With a KPN ID you can access all your KPN services with just one account. 
To help keep your account secure you will log in with two-step verification after creating your KPN ID. In this article we explain how to set this up with an authenticator app. That way you won’t need a phone number to log in.

What is an authenticator app?

An authenticator app is an app you install on your device. It adds an extra layer of security to your login.
You sign in with your username and password, then open your authenticator app and enter the code shown there on the login screen. If the code is correct you can continue.
 

You can choose from several authenticator apps. Google Authenticator  and Microsoft Authenticator are widely used, but you can also choose another app that suits your preference.

Create a KPN ID with the authenticator app

1. Go to KPN ID: 1 inlog voor al je producten and click on KPN ID aanmaken/inloggen

   

    

2. Click on Account aanmaken and enter your e-mail address there. You will now receive an e-mail to complete the registration

   After following the link in the email enter your details and click on Ga verder

   

    

4. On the next screen, you can choose from two options for two-step verification (2FA). Select Ga verder zonder nummer so you can sign in with your authenticator app.

    

   

    

5. Fill in your details an click on Volgende stap

   

    

6. You are now in the main menu of Mijn KPN. Click here on Jouw gegevens, Inloggegevens and then on Extra veilig inloggen. Select Authenticator app. 

   

    

7. You can now connect your authenticator app. Don’t have one installed on your phone or tablet yet? Then you can use the link to go to an app store and download one.

8. After you’ve downloaded and installed the app, use it to scan the QR code shown. You can also enter the code manually. Use the code shown ont hte screen in your Mijn KPN account.

   

9. You’re now all set to sign in with your authenticator app. Trusted devices and the Mijn KPN app only need to be linked once. After that, they will work for a period of time without two-step verification. Do not do this on public devices or devices that are not yours.
