Not receiving OTP sms messages from my UK bank

I have been unable to receive SMS OTP codes from my bank in the UK for the last 5 months. It worked up to November 2025, but since then nothing.

My bank says everything is ok on their end, I have tried the SIM card in a different device, but with the same result. I have also cleared my message cache etc, restarted the phone numerous times, all with no effect.

That’s a really frustrating situation, especially since you’ve already gone through the usual steps like trying a different device and clearing everything out.

What’s worth knowing is that SMS OTP messages don’t always behave like normal text messages. They’re often sent through different (sometimes international) routes or via short codes, which means they can fail even when regular SMS works fine.

A couple of things you could double-check: make sure your number is registered with your bank in full international format (+31…), and have a look at any spam or blocked message folders on your phone, as these types of messages can occasionally end up there without much warning. If you’re using dual SIM or recently switched SIMs, it’s also worth confirming the correct one is set for SMS.

If none of that changes anything, it may be worth asking your bank to re-register your number for OTP or check how they’re sending those messages, as not all systems handle international delivery equally well.
