Box 14 loses connection several times per day. Power turns red

Hi KPN Community!

Hope you can help me with the issue below :)

I’m experiencing recurring internet dropouts with my KPN Box 14 modem. A few times per day (usually around 15-20), the internet connection drops completely for about 1–2 minutes. When this happens, the Power LED turns red, then blinks purple, and finally turns green again once the connection is restored.

During this, there is no internet connectivity at all.

Some details:

  • The modem is installed in the hallway (in the metercast), outside the apartment

  • The modem feels noticeably warm to the touch, but not extremely hot

Network setup:

  • KPN Box 14 is connected directly to the KPN line

  • A second personal router inside the appartment is connected to KPN Box 14 used only as a repeater/bridge to extend Wi-Fi coverage

Has anyone experienced similar behavior with the Box 14? Did a modem replacement resolve it?

Thanks in advance for any responses!

Hi @krllshfv, welcome to our community.
We’re happy to help. A red power light usually indicates that the modem is defective. My suspicion is reinforced by the fact that you mention the modem is getting hot. Have you tried resetting the modem by following these steps?

  • Using the reset button. This button is located on the back. Use a thin object (such as a toothpick or paperclip) to press and hold the button for 30 seconds until all lights turn off. Release it and wait. The Box will reset itself and restart!
  • Go to 192.168.2.254 or mijnmodem.kpn

    • The username is “admin” and is already filled in. Enter your password and click the blue button to log in. The default password can be found on the sticker on the back of the Box 14

    • Go to Settings and then the System tab. There you’ll find the various options

    • Click the orange button next to “Reset this device

If this doesn’t resolve the issue, please get in touch with us. You can easily schedule a call-back appointment (bottom right but in Dutch). We’ll contact you at a time that suits you to sort this out. This also helps you avoid any potential waiting time. You can also reach us by calling the number 0800 0402.
