Why is KPN not offering an app for Titan OS (Phillips)?

After get a new TV from the dutch Phillips, I am disappointed that KPN haven’t developed an app for Titan OS. Even with the KPN+ box it is very uncomfortable, because there is the need of use both remote controls (from KPN box and from the TV). We live in a modern world, where integration is important and convenient. Please, put this integration as priority in your product timeline. Thanks.

The kpn remote can be set tot control the volume of the TVset, here’s how :
https://www.kpn.com/service/televisie/afstandsbediening/instellen
In dutch, no language selection in the kpn site unfortunately.

There are only a few international services (apps) in Titan OS.

Philips television is not Dutch, but Chinese for 12 years now.  The assembly factory is in Poland.

Last year they switched to Titan. The advertisement fees went (go) to Google and they didn't like that.

KPN,  Odido, Delta and Ziggo have apps for Tizen by Samsung, WebOS by LG and Loewe. And tv's and boxes for Android-TV and Google-TV. Ziggo, Odido and Delta also Apple tvOS.

There is no app store in Titan so for now is not possible for European and Dutch providers to develop an app. Even NLziet does not have an app for Titan OS.

Titan is a Spanish software company.

Hi @PeterG thanks for your collaboration. Yes, I knew about the ownership of TP Vision. Just one thing, NLZiet is now available, as well Viaplay and NPO Start. So, it seems to be possible for KPN to develop the app for the Titan OS.

Videoland and Pathé Thuis also have an app for Titan, and they are just as Dutch as ‘stroopwafels’ or ‘klompen’. The notion that it would be impossible for a Dutch company to develop an app for Titan can be dismissed as a myth.

I did not know about NLziet and Videoland. I recently saw a screenshot of Titan and those were not there.

For two very old smart-tv's,  2012 and 2016 outdated, i bought streaming devices. You could also solve it with these.

Hey @PeterG , yes, of course I could solve it with streaming devices but the question is the comfort, convenience and integration, having everything in one device, one search, one UI, one remote control. 😊

I also use one remote with the combination TV+ box and Samsung. The Samsung remote. Via HDMI CEC you can control the kpn +box with the tv remote.

With HDMI CEC you must be able to use your Philips remote with the kpn +box.

Reading this community before buying the tv you could have been prepared. There are enough brands on whichuse the tv app. But since Philips / TP Vision stopped with Google-TV Philips is nog longer possible.

But i wiil expect an app from kpn, Ziggo, Odido and Delta for Titan OS. But i think not thuis year.

Compatibel brands

Samsung, LG, Loewe, Sony, TCL. And other tv's with Google-TV or Android-TV.

Maybe you can still change your tv at your retailler if you explain the reason.

Hi @PeterG, the CEC idea was great. As it wasn’t active on the KPN box, I had previously only volume/power working from my TV remote control. Now, with the CEC activated on the KPN box also the full navigation is working. So, that’s really comfortable now. Thanks for the valuable hint!

Hi @igorsor, welcome to our community. I noticed you also got a reply in another topic, but for your convenience I’m replying here as well.

I completely understand your wish to make the app available for Philips’ Titan OS as well. At the moment we can only share information about the platforms that are officially on our roadmap: Android TV, followed by Samsung Tizen and then LG WebOS.

We will definitely announce it here when Titan will be supported.
