Hi, I moved abroad and am trying to get a new USA sim card for my phone purchased from KPN. However, the US providers say my phone does not work with their networks (based on my IMEI numbers). They told me to check with KPN to ensure the phone is unlocked or if anything else needs to be done. Thanks.

Hello @SarahJ

All the mobile phones KPN sell are unlocked and should work fine in de USA.
There are a lot of Dutch people who go there and have no problems.

I was informed by KPN that not every phone will work.  If not a solution could be a certain software developed especially for these kind of issues. Look on the internet, there should be information about this subject.

Hi @SarahJ , have you checked if your phone’s specific model actually works on de US frequencies?

Thanks, I checked that. It was also working previously on a US network using a UK sim with roaming on. I think the issue is a region lock so I have contacted Samsung about that.

If you used it with a European sim card and made a call for at least 5 minutes the region lock should be already removed.

What's Samsung region lock and how do you turn it off?

With Samsung Region Lock, Samsung ensures that their devices are only used on the market they're intended for. For example, smartphones that you buy in Asia can't be used in Europe and vice versa. You can cancel Samsung Region Lock making a 5-minute phone call with a SIM card from the market the phone is intended for.
After that you can place a simcard from any region.

thank you, I don’t have the UK number any more to try this, but I am checking with Samsung and waiting for their response.
