How do I connect the Box 14 with my Unifi system?

Hi all

Received my kpn 4gbps connection today.
Curiously, when i plug the Nokia box output directly to my unifi cloud gateway ultra, and configure pppoe, I get internet, though only around 1.5 gbps down and up. That is expected though with the ucgu limitations.
However then I plugged in the box14 in between Nokia and ucgu. Used default settings for it and revert off vlan and on dhcpv4/v6on the ucgu and can’t get any internet, ucgu just says I’m not seeing any connection.
What am I doing wrong?

Still have my ziggo connection and modem and when I plug it in (bridge mode), boom the internet is back.
So pretty sure it’s something in my kpn box 14 settings?

ideally want to be using the full bandwidth capability and I think double NAT is prob fine (though bit silly) but for now I cannot even get that option to work.

Thanks!

So to be clear, when you connect the Box 14 into the Nokia, you have internet correct?
If so, even when you revert all the changes (vlan/pppoe) try a full reset on the ucgu.
When other devices can connect to the internet from the Box 14, so should the ucgu.

On the other end, if you want to use the Unifi hardware AND full bandwith, have a look at the just announced Cloud Gateway Fiber ðŸ˜‰

Oh wow this looks amazing. Seems even better than a udmpm no?? For this particular solution of 4gbps isp with no bridge mode modem supplied.

To you question, the box 14 provides WiFi internet yes, the wan I didn’t check as have nothing to plug into a port. But when I plug the 10g port to my 2.5g ucgu port, just no signal comes through. Almost like it’s the cable or something.

Can even add some protect cams with storage. Seems epic no?

When you connect your Box 14 straight into the Nokia you use the WAN port, then you connect the ucgu via one of the LAN ports on the Box 14.

So basically this:
Nokia => WAN (red port) - Box 14.
Box 14 (green or blue port) → 2.5Gbit port - UCGU

If the blue port (10Gbit) doesn't work try the green one (2.5Gbit)

And yes, the new UCGF is pretty amazing spec wise!
The UDM might be a little more powerfull, but no M.2 slot for storage and a lot bigger.
Just know that none of these devices have WiFi, so you a access point.

I’ll try the modem with the 2.5 instead of 10.
but, I can just get this cloud gateway fiber, and plug the Nokia box straight into the wan port right? Which port actually, can i just the Nokia cable out straight to cloud gateway fiber 10g wan?

I have a switch and a bunch of APs behind my ucgu so all good.
though prob need to upgrade my switch to 10g, not sure currently what it is.
I guess I need to go from cloud gateway fiber to my switch with the 10g sfr one right?

Will it be able to pppoe the kpn direct fiber to 4gbps or do you think I ill still end up needing to put box14 in front?

You can connect the cloud gateway fiber directly to the Nokia, no need to put the Box 14 in between.
Just setup vlan 6 with pppoe and your good to go. Only when you have TV from KPN you need to make adjustments otherwise it won't work properly (a quick google search will do the trick).

It doesn't really matter which port you gonna use on the CGF, all ports are assignable as WAN.
So you could use for example LAN1 (2.5Gbit) as WAN and use the 10Gbit RJ45 as uplink to your switch, just like the SFP+.
But since you have a 4Gbit connection you should use 10Gbit WAN indeed to connect to the Nokia.

If you buy the SFP+ to RJ45 adapter you can connect the UCG fiber directly to the ONT, no need to have the V14 in between.

If you buy a suitable SFP+ XGS-PON adapter you could even connect the UCG fiber directly to the fiber itself. Personally I would not choose for this option.

Ok so you’re sure the new device has the computer to decode 4gbps pppoe bandwidth with no issues. Somewhere I read even the udmp would struggle. Wanted to check before spending 500e to order it (as will add some storage too so I can setup some protect cams).

I am only still slightly confused on the SFP+ to RJ45. Doesn’t the new device have ports for both. Which does the Nokia fiber plug in to and which do I use to connect onwards to my switch. Would ignore the 2.5g ports yes.

i need to plug the Nokia out line to the device and I need to plug the device to my 10g switch (which then has cat6 wired throughout my house including to multiple APs).

My bad. ðŸ˜® You're right the UCG Fiber also has a 10Gbps RJ45 WAN port so there is no need to purchase an additional SFP+ to RJ45 module. You can connect the ONT to the 10Gbps RJ45 WAN port of the UCG Fiber.

Ofcourse I am not sure but looking at the specs it should be capable to handle a 4Gbps connection.

Question: What do you expect from your 4Gbps subscription? Have you ever measured the real bandwidth usage as I doubt that you will ever use more the 1Gbps and than such investements might never pay off.

Ah cool ok.
expect bragging rights mainly, my hd Sony tv has a 100mb connection lol.
it was free for the first 12 months so after 12 I might just roll back to 1gbp if no new tech to choose it has come out.

I wouldn’t expect the fiber to do full 4Gbps with POE though, the UDM SE and UDM P even struggle with doing 2Gbps over pppoe.

Maybe I should wait for a review of it to come out with some tests?

Yeah, I’m waiting for the same, I have a UDM SE now and it works with a full gbit, but much higher then 1.5 it won’t.

Waiting for reviews is always a good thing!
The new CGF should be just as powerfull as the UDM Pro according to UI, but since it's just released expect some firmware updates to increase performance.

If you have TV from KPN please make sure you install the script from Fabianshere after it has been changed to support the UCG Fiber. See the topic below for a link to the Github Fabianshere.

Is that speedtest on the CGF itself or from your pc, and do you have IPS/IDS enabled?
Also make sure that your firmware is up2date.
