KPN Router shuts off when using DecoX10 Mesh

Hi, my router worked fine for over 1 year - no downtime nothing. Then I connected a DecoX10 as a Mesh network router. It works for some hours and then the router shuts off and looses connection. The Deco is connected via network cable. I tried to switch off the wifi on the router ( no changes) i tried to give the deco a static IP but also not helpful.  I tried the Deco in AP mode and in wifi router mode (no changes). I cannot put the kpn box in bridge mode. I am only using internet (no TV, no phone). What else can I do?

I fixed it by throwing out the Experia Box and connecting a new router. Everything works fine. Connection is even better than before. And the Deco and the router are not fighting anymore.

Hi @C_Hill and welcome to our KPN Community. I'm sorry to hear that the connection is dropping as soon as the DecoX10 is connected.

I'm not too well versed in Deco appliances, so my suggestion would be to ask the TP-link Community. Perhaps someone there has a good tip, or someone on this Community might still reply with some advise.

Hopefully you'll find the solution quickly!

If you don't need TV, you can connect the Deco router directly to the fibre box without the KPN modem. The settings for WAN is PPPoE, VLAN ID=6 en user/password=anythings but not blank.

If you don't have fibre connection yet, you need to use the KPN modem voor DSL en put the main Deco in DMZ of KPN modem. You can't put more than 1 Deco units at same time on different LAN ports of the KPN modem. The satellite Deco's should be conntected to a LAN port of the main Deco or wirelessly.

I do not have a fiber box as I have an old connection. So that is not working.

I had a look there and I found nothing. I looked also in other places. Without success. The connection is still dropping at least once per day. Then the router reboots and it is back up again.

Furthermore, I loose bandwidth. From the router I get approx 180MBits downstream with switched off Wifi at the Router and the Deco Network I get max 60Mbits downstream.  Any other ideas?

Thanks

Chris

The only other advise I have is to check the connection with just your KPN router connected. If it's still dropping with that setup, then I'd advise you to make a call appointment with us.
My colleague can then check the connection and see whether nothing is amiss there.

If the connection isn't dropping with just your KPN router connected, and it only drops as soon as the Deco comes into play then I unfortunately have no other ideas. You could create a topic on the TP-link Community yourself, to ask for help. Perhaps someone there knows the right settings you need.

I'm glad they’re getting along now. 😄 Odd that the Experia Box was throwing a wrench in the connection.
Make sure that you don't throw it away by the way, if you ever cancel your subscription then you'll need to send the Experia Box back so make sure to keep it stored somewhere safe until then.

Thanks for updating and glad it was solved!
