hello, about a month ago i was leaving europe and had a layover in turkey. i had previously turned my roaming off as i am aware of the charges, and i waited to connect to the airport wifi.

despite doing this i received 2 messages within a minute of each other stating that i had used 80% of my limit and then 100%, charging me 60.5 euros. how is this acceptable?!? ive seen so many other people with similar stories. i was not aware of such "limit". why was i charged if my data roaming was off?

Hi, @leena deeb , welcome and thanks for your message and sorry to hear about this unpleasant surprise.

Even when data roaming is turned off on your phone, some devices or apps may still establish brief connections,  for example, during a reboot or network switch,  especially in non-EU countries like Turkey. This can result in unexpected data usage.

The “limit” you mention likely refers to the standard out-of-bundle data cap for roaming outside the EU. This is usually set to protect customers from excessive charges, but it can still lead to costs like the one you experienced. The €60.50 charge matches the default data roaming limit many providers use internationally unless changed manually.

We completely understand your frustration.  We have a special topic about this where you can read all about avoiding this the next time.
