Wrong router for pair bonding?

Hello,

I am on a 200 Mbps internet plan, but I noticed that my connection is capped at 111 Mbps (see actual rate in screenshot).

My current modem is KPN Box 12. I have a ISRA-2 point with blue and white sockets (dual bonding) but my KPN Box 12 doesn't seem to support this.

Do I need the Experia Box v10 instead, with a Y-cable to support dual bonding and reach the 200mbps I am paying for?

Thank you,

Eduard

All modern ISRA’s are kitted out with 2 dsl ports. That doesn’t mean both should work. If you received a box12 and a single dsl cable then you have vdsl and not bonded vdsl.

If you received a box12 and a single dsl cable then you have vdsl and not bonded vdsl.

But why would the subscription be 200Mbps then? Or is 200Mbps subscription the minimum now (even where the DSL line is max. 30Mbps)?

No 100 is the minimum. But at his adres 124 is possible, and with a dsl / copper abonnement the speeds are not a minimum but a maximum. So with a 100 abonnement you’ll get 100 and with a 200 abonnement you can receive 124.

Clear. So it would be best for @eduard9 to see if there is a big price difference (there might not be, I’m not sure) and decide if those extra 24Mbps are worth that 😉

Thank you both for the swift reply.

The local dashboard in the screenshot I shared is showing max rate of 124 because there is only 1 cable plugged into the router.

if I input my address at https://www.kpn.com/shop/pakket-zelf-samenstellen, it says that 200mbps is available here.

I also had some problems with the home delivery of my router, so I had to pick one up from a physical KPN store (the Box 12). This is what is still leading me to believe that my address supports bonded vdsl, and that I received/picked up the wrong router.

Is there a way to definitively check this?

Thank you

You can try switching the cable from the blue port to the white port. If you have a working internet connection on both ports, you have pair bonding, meaning two pairs of wires connected to the local exchange. In this case, you’ll need the V10 modem.

makes sense, will test this and report back

If you got the modem from the KPN store then it might be an error indeed. The easiest solution is what TDN proposed. Alternatively you can fill out your forum profile and a moderator can look it up for you. But they usually respond within 1 or 2 days.

I switched the cable from the white port to the blue port in the ISRA-2 point, and I am getting no connection in the blue port. Light keeps blinking after waiting 10 mins.

If I'm right, this confirms that line 2 is not active and it's impossible to reach the 200mbps. Would it then be possible for a moderator to arrange for the 2nd port to be patched/activated by KPN, so I can reach the contracted speed?

Thanks

@eduard9 I think one of the lines isn't activated. You can open the plastic cover and measure the voltage between A and B with a multimeter. The voltage between A and B of a connected line should be approximately 50V DC.

DSL has no voltage…

@eduard9 you should contact KPN. 200mb is possible from your screenshot and if your modem isn’t getting it something is wrong. It might need to be fixed with an on-site technician.

DSL has no voltage…

Without a modem, there is still a constant DC voltage between A and B. With a modem (active internet connection), you will typically measure an AC voltage because its value changes very rapidly

@Ik_Combineer shouldn't it be possible to use that speed over 1 line i believe its called VPLUS

Vplus require certain conditions, like an excellent line, the starting point being a street cabinet instead of a city hub (hvd), and most importantly living close to that street cabinet. But the topic starter already send an screenshot showing vdsl instead of vplus. So it isn’t available. He needs an technician to restore the second line if it is possible.
